In accordance with federal law (the Tobacco 21 law) and Virginia state law:

• The minimum age to purchase tobacco products is 21 years old
• This includes cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, vaping products, and all tobacco accessories
• Valid government-issued photo ID is required for all purchases
• Military ID alone is not sufficient - a valid state-issued ID or passport is required

At all Carytown Tobacco locations:

• All customers who appear under 30 years of age will be asked for ID
• IDs are scanned or manually verified for authenticity
• Employees may refuse service if ID cannot be verified
• Third-party purchases for minors are strictly prohibited
• Signage is posted at all entrances and point-of-sale locations

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Attempting to purchase tobacco products while underage is illegal and may result in fines and other legal consequences. Adults who purchase tobacco products for minors may also face criminal charges. We take these laws seriously and will report any suspected violations to the appropriate authorities.

Employee Training

All Carytown Tobacco employees undergo comprehensive training on age verification procedures. This training includes identifying valid IDs, recognizing fake or altered IDs, and understanding the legal requirements for tobacco sales. Employees who fail to comply with age verification requirements are subject to disciplinary action.
